12 Essential Apps to Enhance Your Trip to Hawaii

Hawaii has a number of apps that can help you get the most out of your time here – from transportation, to the best attractions that Hawaii has to offer.

Gone are the days when tourists had to buy travel guides and maps to help them navigate around a new city. Let your smartphone do the heavy lifting while you enjoy your stay.

Let me share with you the 12 essential apps that I believe will help enhance your trip to Hawaii.

Hawaiian Airlines

If you have the opportunity to book your flight through Hawaiian Airlines, I highly recommend it! The flight crew are always warm and courteous, plus it’s one of the few flights that still offer a complimentary meal.  By downloading the Hawaiian Airlines Mobile Travel App, you can book a flight, manage your trips, check in, and generate your mobile boarding pass and more.

This app is perfect for those wanting to surf the beaches of Hawaii. Surf News Network  provides you with access to the latest Hawaii surf report. Get a complete overview of the net few days for swell and wind.

TheBus / DaBus

If you want an affordable option for traveling around the island, then I suggest you familiarize yourself with “TheBus.” TheBus is the public transportation service on the island of Oahu. the app takes the guesswork out of catching the bus on the island. It uses arrival information to provide the best estimated time on when the next scheduled bus will arrive. This app also tracks the current location of the bus so you know exactly where it is located on the map. You can also locate nearby bus stops and bookmark your favorite stops.

Bikeshare Hawaii, “Biki”

Biki which launched this summer, is a bikeshare system that enable it’s customers to make short trips using a network of publicly accessible bikes. With the app you can find the nearest Biki station and rent a bike though your phone.

WiFi Finder

Lyft or Uber

Lyft and Uber are by far our favorite modes of transportation. It’s cheaper than a *taxi, faster than TheBus, and so easy to use! Plus, it’s another great way to get to know the island by simply asking your driver where their favorite places to eat or visit. Lfyt will periodically send it’s users discounts on future rides and both offers up discounts if you refer the service to friends or family. *Prices vary on market condition.

Trust me, if you plan on renting a car and driving yourself, then this app is a must and you will use it to go everywhere! I’ve been living on Oahu for two years, and I can safely say that I can now get to our local Wal-Mart and Target without Google’s help.

Oahu Hawaii GPS Driving Tour

Downloading this app will be like having your very own tour guide as you drive your car around Oahu. It works OFFLINE, using GPS to play audio from narration automatically as you drive, telling you interesting stories and driving directions, with local Hawaiian music in between. A fun was for the whole family to explore the island.
